Directed by Gerry Geronimi assisted by Ted Sebern, layout by Tom Codrick and Don Griffith. This FINAL draft dated 2/7/49.

A slew of "Old Men" animated this one. Credited are: Ollie Johnston--alone and with Ken O'Brien and Hal Ambro--, Milt Kahl, Frank Thomas, Woolie Reitherman (alone and together) as well as John Sibley and Hal King, and effects animator George Rowley.

Milt animates Brom and "the fat girl," while each of the others animate most other characters. Of course, Sib and Woolie handle some nice action stuff.

Comments

  1. Gerry Geronimi takes over, and Woolie Reitherman makes his triummphant return from the aviation business;...doing Ichabod.
Frank Thomas does what has to be the loosest animation he ever did.
I'm surprised Ward Kimball didn't handle the violinist.

  2. Okay, I'm really confused - I don't understand on why in Scene 36 would credit on animators like Brom and the fat lady. I simply can't understand on why the scene would go to Frank and Woolie. The directors at Disney cast animated scenes in a very complicating way. Animators outside Disney, usually animate the entire characters in a scene.

  3. Frank does Brom, Woolie does Matilda! What's to confuse??

  4. Well, in the drawing here: http://animationguildblog.blogspot.com/2009/01/return-of-megacollector.html

It says that this part was animated by Woolie Reitherman (with Amby Paliwoda assisting), no mention of Frank Thomas here, and both characters are drawn on the screen.

So yes, this is confusing to me. Because actually, both Frank and Woolie animate the same characters at different scenes. It justs stumps me that on this type of scene, that it would go to two animators, and not just one. That would just make staging very complicating.

  5. There seems to be some co-animating here as well... Ollie with O'Brien, and Ollie with Ambro.
