Prod. 2062 - Ichabod (VIII)  - Seq. 5 - Rivalry with Brom

Directed by Jack Kinney, layout by Thor Putnam and Al Zinnen.
This FINAL draft dated 7/16/48.

Animation by Frank Thomas, Hal Ambro, Ollie Johnston and Hugh Fraser. It seems Frank and Ollie share the directing animator role in this sequence where they both animate Ichabod, Katrina and Brom Bones and incidentals in 17 and 30 scenes respectively. In his five scenes, Hal Ambro also animates all, while Hugh Fraser does the three scenes with the double Ichabods.

  1. This piece is probably the funniest thing Disney ever made; I don't think it's ever been topped. Frank and Ollie are very good at the funny stuff!

For awhile I suspected Woolie Reitherman had done the final scenes where Brom has Ichabod in his clutches, but it's all by Ollie Johnston! I'm surprised to see he's done so much here. I'm not surprised, however, that he did the scenes of Brom freaking out at the kissing noises.

  2. Zartok, in my opinion - Ichabod has some of the most loosest animation in that cartoon - which is why it's probably my all-time favourite Disney film (inc. Mr. Toad section).

Frank and Ollie do some really good comedy here, which is usually at the top of their league. I just love how controlled of animation of how Ichabod touches Brom's nose that sticks out while he is covered in flour. Ollie Johnston did superb animation (and Frank too).
