Prod. 2436 - Pluto's Xmas Tree
That is the title on the 7/30/1951 draft, for this film directed by Jack Hannah, layout Yale Gracey, backgrounds Thelma Witmer.
The animator's names may be a bit unclear in this copy, but except for the first scene by Dan MacManus and a scene by Blaine Gibson, all credits are for George Kreisl, Fred Moore, Bill Justice and Volus Jones. Story by Bill Berg & Milt Schaffer, music Joseph S. Dubin.
The film premiered Nov. 21st, 1952.
Off to see the Disney exhibit in Oakland, CA - back on Thursday!

Blaine Gibson and Dan MacManus are credited with effects shots (snow and Christmas tree lights) which makes sense as they were effects animators. However, the credited effects animator is George Rowley. Does this mean he didn't actually work on it?
ReplyDeleteI would think that, though Gibson and MacManus were responsible for the scenes they did, George Rowley was then the main animator of the effects in the other scenes, where only the character animators were credited.
ReplyDeleteAs I stressed before, the drafts were working documents used for tracing scenes back to the responsible main animator, and as such can have incomplete or even incorrect information. But, for the lack of the folders that went around the drawings, this is all we have.
Yes, it would be nice if the folks from the Animation Research Library would publish a definite 'catalogue', but with the firings lately, I don't see it coming...
